Origins

Watermelon is the fruit of an herbaceous plant in the cucurbitaceae familly, which also includes cucumber, zucchini and squash. The oversized fruit, whose weight can easily reach 5 pounds or more, has reddish-pink, or sometimes yellow or white, flesh and a large number of black seeds. The fruit is grown in southern Africa, the Mediterranean basin, the southern USA, and other warm regions around the world.

Extraction Method

Since watermelon, as its name implies, has a high water content, (> 90%), it’s impossible to obtain an essential oil by extraction. The fruit’s fragrance is reproduced by perfumers in a laboratory.
