Rosemary is cultivated for use in perfumery in the south of France, Tunisia, Morocco and Spain. Spanish rosemary has a distinctive odor.

Extraction Method

Rosemary essence is extracted through steam distillation of the blossoming stems of this evergreen shrub, which can reach a height of 9 feet. Rosemary is native to the Mediterranean region.

Uses

Rosemary essence is used in men's eaux de toilette and cosmetics. It is also used to flavor meat, potatoes, marinades, jellies, and fruit salads. It is particularly suited to vinegars and oils.

History

From the Latin "rosamarinus" (sea dew). It grows along the Mediterranean coast. In the Middle Ages, it was placed under pillows to keep away evil spirits, witches and the plague. In Ancient Greece, students used to wear garlands of it to improve the memory. Linked to happy memories, to fidelity and love, it has been a wedding flower in Europe since the early Middle Ages. Medicinal properties Stimulates circulation and digestion. Antiseptic. Its odor purifies both mind and body.
