musky, sensual, clean, skin
Origins
Created through organic synthesis, musks are important to fragrance as indispensable elements of diffusion and tenacity. They are often called ‘white musks’ as opposed to natural, animal musk, which they have almost totally replaced. Their scents develop clean, fresh, skin notes. They can also be reminiscent of blackberry, ambrette and ambergris.
Extraction Method
In perufmery terms, white musks are a family of smells. The family is described as ‘musky’ as opposed to ‘animal notes’. They are the product of organic research, and their names and formulas are many. Among them, fixolide, habanolide, galaxolide and ambrettolide are particularly worthy of mention.
Use
Musks are used frequently in fragrance, ranging from the finest perfumes to the formulas for cleaning products.
Story
The first synthetic molecules with a musky smell were discovered around 1890. New molecules are still being created today, thanks to continued resarch.
