Description
Iris Ukiyoé is a fragrance that has been worked in ‘light, impressionistic touches’. The iris-flower accord dreamt up by the perfumer reveals an unusual combination of notes, ranging from cold rose and orange blossom to moist petals and mandarin orange. After a sparkling citrus opening, the fragrance evolves towards a very fresh floral theme with green, aqueous, slightly cosmetic facets. Perfumer: Jean-Claude Ellena.

History
Iris Ukiyoé is the ninth fragrance in the Hermessence collection. Each and every fragrance in this line, conceived for connoisseurs of fine essences, was created by Jean-Claude Ellena, Hermès’s in-house perfumer. An admirer of Japanese engravings – particularly those of Hiroshige and Hokusai, masters of Ukiyoé – the perfumer composed the fragrance like a Japanese bouquet. He drew his inspiration from the ‘floating world’ (ukiyoé in Japanese) concept. Iris Ukiyoé reveals ‘a world of petals in undreamed-of tonalities’ that Jean-Claude Ellena besported with, working the flower’s water-gorged petals rather than the iris rhizome note, diverting the scent away from a floral iris. A fragrance for him or her, found exclusively in Hermès boutiques.

Bottle
A heavy glass bottle with rounded angles, topped by an iris-hued stitched leather cap. The iris shade crops up again in the leather sheath, which is lined, for the first time, in Hermès’s signature orange.

Je suis en train de tomber en amour avec les parfums verts. La raison que je voudrais essayer, ce est que les notes vertes sont melanges avec des notes aqueuses. Et parcee que est Hermes...................I am fallling in love with green fragrances. The reason I would like to try this one is that the green notes are mixed with aqueous notes. And because it is Hermes.

Moi qui adore les parfums qui contiennent de l'iris, j'aurais du être prédestiné à porter celui-ci. Pourtant, je lui ai trouvé quelque chose qui ne me convient pas du tout: la mandarine, sans doute. Dommage car la qualité des matières utilisées et le flaconnage sublime sont indéniables!
