Description
The superb floral bouquet is composed of jasmine, rose, ylang ylang, tuberose, and lily-of-the-valley warmed by spices such as clove and coriander. The end note delivers a woody vanilla finish; Arpège was the first woman's perfume to contain so much sandalwood.
History
Jeanne Lanvin wanted to give her daughter Marie-Blanche the most sumptuous 30th-birthday present imaginable: a perfume of her own.So she asked André Fraysse to create a magnificent bouquet of flowers. Jeanne deliberately chose the most luxurious essences, in order to create a truly "eternal" gift.Marie-Blanche was an accomplished musician, so the perfume was christened "Arpège" after the arpeggio.Although the blend was revised in 1990 to keep up with the times, the original high standards were scrupulously maintained.To this day Arpège remains one of the most outstanding perfumes for women.
Bottle
The stylized image of Jeanne and her young daughter can be seen on the apple-shaped bottle which echoes female curves.Blue, the colour of the packaging, was Jeanne Lanvin's favorite color, (the original stopper was also blue). Known as "Lanvin blue," the shade was the hallmark of all her collections.

Everyone always comments on this as a mature fragrance, but I first smelled it on my friend in Corsica when we were teenagers, so to me this will always be a memory of designer shoes and big sunglasses worn while gossiping and laughing. Classic but not as prevalent as Chanel, it is a more distinct choice than many.

Je le trouve bien plus vif que n°5, plus épicé que l'Air du Temps et d’après mon dernier test il a une meilleure tenue et sillage sur moi que Rive Gauche. Il est aussi plus rond. J'ai aussi découverte une note de cuir, animale même. Très peu porté de nos jours, à tort. Je vais certainement en acheter et le porter à la première occasion.

Je trouve pour ma part qu'Arpège a sa propre identité et que même si on peut lui trouver une petite parenté avec le N°5, les deux évoluent de manière totalement différente sur ma peau et à mon nez. Le N°5 se caramélise alors qu'Arpège est un floral-aldéhydé. Le flacon est magnifique.
